As an inherent protest against all forms of life that is voiced and envisioned through the form of pain and isolation-themed works, the album “Fragile” by the Depressive Black Metal act Sorry… channels recurring themes of in-depth emotional suffering into sonic form. The album was released via Suicide Emotions Records and incorporates elements associated with Post-Punk and Darkwave, featuring extensive synth usage, while simultaneously maintaining the Depressive Black Metal roots.
Sorry…
Sorry… has been around for around six years and they are based in multiple locations, precisely Greece and the United Kingdom. Ever since the starting point of their formation, they have been treating the art of making music as both personal catharsis and intricate existential protest. The way they stylistically merge DSBM elements with Post-Punk and Darkwave melancholy is also one of the distinctive, intriguing selling points of the sounds they present. Throughout their trajectory of music-making years, they have been ever-consistent in presenting passages and lyrical themes surrounding the discourse of existential void and emotional distress– and on the album Fragile too, they managed to keep the consistency intact in terms of presenting those themes– specifically focused on the idea of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and mental anguish; making it an emotionally intense album with a meticulously raw storytelling concept accompanied by touches of nihilistic undertones.
When it comes to the musical elements, over the years, they have undergone a lot of significant changes when it comes to musical styles and sonic experiments, but what remain consistent are the raw expression of aggression, the harsh sounds that appear to be a perfect epitome of madness, and riffs and vocals that stem from intense emotional states. Features of raw, Lifelover-inspired vocals are also a noticeable characteristic found in Sorry…’s music throughout their sonic journey, including on this album. Though it is worth noting as well that aside from all the harsh noises and depressive elements, coexisting alongside them on this album are also enchantingly solemn synth lines with a strong inclination towards Post-Punk and Darkwave.
Fragile, to me, is an intensely poignant take on synth-infused DSBM that is guaranteed to invite its listeners to a raw journey of existential void; one that would make them combust into the dark depths of oblivion.
