The motion of creating art through a conflagration of colors is a technique that can be lost in its language where the hues bleed into one another. Still, there exists the artist who hones each shade, and from the well of the mind, orchestrates each flow wherein the colors merge, where the darkness consumes that which breeds light, and from this copulance of art and consciousness, magick is manifested. Pure magick that is unified, with the soul of the one who looks upon such works transformed by the hands of man.

“Ravenous Abyss” an EP crafted through the works of the Black Metal entity Abysmal Oceans, can be regarded as a spell though short in its duration, it bewitches the mind to be entranced in its engrossing tones, carving from its melodies a world for one to traverse.

The offering presents itself in a cohesive structure, wherein the instrumental architecture coupled with the vocals exude a symbiotic relationship to the shapes they undergo, in other words, the very unison forged here becomes the very sinew that binds the dissonance of Black Metal to the atmosphere manifested upon this EP. Tracks such as “Ascension” and “Nightmares” portray the dichotomy between the melodic moments versus that of the malevolent aura, to find the equilibrium betwixt these two energies can be seen as the zenith of “Ravenous Abyss”. The very sound, which is gifted through the mix renders the elements with a discernable feature however, it ceases naught to cauterize and make its spirit sterile, for the very vehemence displayed through the strings becomes accentuated by the very mix.

Regarding that which bestows a sense of animation, breathing life into the bones of this creation, the fusion of the lyrical content and the vocals culminate in such magnificence. The synergy crafted between that which is written and that which is spoken magnifies the shifting aura of this EP, in addition to this, seeing as there are only four (4) tracks, the luxury of having the lyrics breathe naturally in its goetic form is gifted here, as well as absorbing the layers of the vocals.

Within the minutes of “Ravenous Abyss” Abysmal Oceans has birthed a jewel that speaks to one’s mind, and from its speech, a mystical sermon is bred from its splendor where each note baptizes the senses, submerging it into a domain fashioned from its art.
