Tchornobog – Tchornobog

Record Label: Fallen Empire Records

Year: 2017

Rating: 8/10

Since I got the last bunch of FE releases, let’s review now the last one! Markov Soroka is the individual behind Tchornobog, who is also responsible for Aureole as well. But while he created Aureole back in 2013-14 and he has already released 2 albums, this is the first album of Tchornobog, though this was his 1st band, almost 10 years ago. But again there was a delay with this release, since this album was recorded back in 2015.

I think that Tchornobog’s debut made quite an impact last year! At first I will refer to the excellent artwork! Both the cover and the booklet are looked after with a lot of detail. As it comes to the music, this album is an excellent blend of black/death/doom metal! Sometimes it reminds me The Ruins Of Beverast, but Soroka has achieved to gain his own musical identity.

There are mostly slow or mid tempo, with some fast parts, especially at the opening song, combined with melodies. The repetitiveness also contributes to the creation of a dark atmosphere, that is present throughout the album. Sometimes I think that there are also some Svartidaudi influences, but I think that’s because this album was recorded with the same man.

This album would be quite enjoyable for most fans, but I think that it could have been a little more darker and “annoying”.
