I first came across Menetekel’s music, when I heard Wyrgher’s releases. I liked them both, though there were too many influences, and obvious, form Leviathan. It seems that he paused with Wyrgher and he continued his musical pursuit with Ungfell.
Again, my first reaction to this project was positive, though there were tooooo many influences from Peste Noire, also a band that I like a lot. Even the Ungfell logo was alike to the Peste Noire logo! But with this new release, second full length album, Ungfell seem to have found a more personal sound.
First of all, they changed their logo a bit. Then, the Peste Noire influences, have been reduced, they are present throughout the album, especially the guitar sound or some guitar leads still remind them. But they have added many acoustic/folk parts that accomplish to a more original approach. Vocals are high pitched and tempos are usually very fast.
Overall, a really good album, with more originality than its predecessors, which I’m sure a lot of fans would enjoy. Now I’m anxiously waiting their next move.
